Sam Freedman is brimming with optimism regarding the outlook for stable standout Without A Fight as the Spring Racing Carnival looms on the horizon.

Since his commanding victory in last year’s Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), the imported talent has been absent from the track, sidelined during the autumn season due to a minor tendon strain.

However, Freedman shared encouraging updates on the gelding’s recuperation.

“He’s going great,” remarked Freedman, who operates in collaboration with his father Anthony. “I had a chat with Lee Evison this morning and he’s been very pleased with him.”

Detailing the progress made, Freedman continued, “The tendon is scanning really well, it’s all been going the right way, he’s been upping his workload and he’s been coping with it very well.”

“All being well, if it all continues to go the right way, we’d be optimistic that he could be back under saddle in about six weeks’ time, which seems soon enough given the injury wasn’t all that long ago.”

“His rehab’s gone so well, so far, I do say that because he’s got to tick some boxes but the spring’s looking very optimistic at the moment.”
