Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 4, 2024 Journalists Posted May 4, 2024 A whopping 47-1 while making his foray into graded competition, Amerman Racing's TRIKARI (c, 3, Oscar Performance–Dynamic Holiday, by Harlan's Holiday) sat a trip that has proven extremely productive over the Matt Winn turf course over the last few days and kicked away late to cause a boilover in Saturday's GII American Turf S. at Churchill Downs. Scratched down into the inside stall, the $27,500 OBS October yearling purchase fell right into the box seat as 24-1 Formidable Man (City of Light) set the pace from a tugging and visibly warm Legend of Time (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) to the backstretch. Going well on the back of the pacesetter passing the half-mile peg, Trikari popped off the fence and three wide into the lane, took aim on Formidable Man at the sixteenth pole and inched away to lite up the toteboard. The pacesetter was game in defeat and managed to hold second from Lagynos (Kantharos), who had a bit of traffic trouble inside the three-furlong pole, switched out late and flashed home for third at 36-1. The $1 exacta returned better than $662, the trifecta nearly $6,000 and the superfecta, with 7-1 Cugino (Twirling Candy) filling the fourth spot, over $69,000. Sales history: $27,500 Ylg '22 OBSOCT.
