Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 9 Journalists Share Posted May 9 Gosford’s $2 million race day has been moved from Gosford Racecourse to Newcastle Racecourse due to rain and a Heavy 10 track rating. Racing NSW made the decision to ensure the safety of both the horses and jockeys participating in Saturday’s metropolitan race day. The relocated event features a prize pool of $2 million, with races including The Coast with a prize of $500,000, the Gosford Gold Cup offering $300,000, and the Takeover Target Stakes with a purse of $250,000. Despite the disappointment expressed by Gosford Racecourse Club CEO Daniel Lacey regarding the change in venue, he emphasised the importance of prioritising safety and ensuring that next year’s event will be even more spectacular. In light of the venue change, adjustments have been made to race distances. Race 4: Benchmark 78 Handicap, initially planned for 2100 metres, will now take place over 2200 metres. Race 6: Gosford Gold Cup, at 2100 metres, has been moved to 2200 metres. Race 9: Benchmark 78 Handicap, a 1000 metre race, will now be contested over 900 metres. In addition, the field sizes for Race 2 (Midway Handicap), Race 3 (TAB Highway Handicap), and Race 7 (Takeover Target Stakes) have been decreased from 16 to 14 to adhere to the barrier limits set by Racing NSW.
