Pouliches Glory For Lope De Vega’s Rouhiya

After a finish to Sunday's G1 Emirates Poule d'Essai des Pouliches that appeared as a true 80s throwback, it was the world-famous Aga Khan and Sangster silks involved at the death of the ParisLongchamp Classic with the former's livery in front where it mattered on the 31-1 outsider Rouhiya (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}–Rondonia {Ire}, by Raven's Pass). Continuing the fine form of the Francis-Henri Graffard stable in 2024, the homebred with no previous black-type experience who had been third in the course-and-distance Prix du Louvre conditions event last month was forced to go forward from her draw in stall 10 but was able to retain enough energy to sit behind the leading trio throughout the all-important early stages.

Rouhiya, who was becoming her owner-breeder's fifth Pouliches winner, needed to work to get to the long-time leader and 45-1 shot Kathmandu (Ire) (Showcasing {GB}) but proved game and genuine for Maxime Guyon as she cut down that rival in the shade of the post. At the line, there was a head between the Aga Khan and Sangster fillies, with a neck separating them and Vespertilio (Fr) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) in third. Godolphin's Romantic Style (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), who was sent forward by William Buick from stall 14, probably paid for that when fourth, another short neck away.
