Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 8, 2024 Journalists Posted June 8, 2024 Dornoch (c, 3, Good Magic–Puca, by Big Brown), a full-brother to last year's GI Kentucky Derby winner Mage, pulled off a 17-1 shocker defeating 'TDN Rising Star' Mindframe (Constitution) by a half-length in Saturday's GI Belmont S. at Saratoga. Favored 'Rising Star' Sierra Leone (Gun Runner) was third. A troubled 10th from the one hole in the Kentucky Derby last time out, Dornoch was hustled to the front by Luis Saez here and pressed GI Preakness S. winner Seize the Grey (Arrogate) through fractions of :22.99 and :47.25 on a track playing kindly to frontrunners. Dornoch struck the front on the far turn, kicked for home as the one to catch and dug down gamely as Mindframe wandered down the stretch to pull off the upset. Sierra Leone rallied from far back after getting bumped at the start to complete the trifecta. The final time for 1 1/4 miles was 2:01.64. Sales history: $325,000 yrl '22 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 8-4-2-0. O-West Paces Racing LLC, R. A. Hill Stable, Belmar Racing and Breeding, LLC, Two Eight Racing, LLC and Pine Racing Stables; B-Grandview Equine (KY); T-Danny Gargan.
