With a spring in his step down the lane, it was 'TDN Rising Star' Parenting (Justify–Iadorakid, by Lemon Drop Kid) who stepped up to win his first black-type in the Affirmed S. at Santa Anita Park on Sunday.

The colt made his debut in late April at 'The Great RIP' and that effort earned him a 'TDN Rising Star' for the effort.

Trying two turns and against much tougher company here, the 4-5 choice got down to business heading into the first turn and began to tussle with Scatify (Justify). As the pair dueled through the far turn, it was Parenting who gained the upper hand and sailed home impressively over his rival.

Parenting is owned by Gandharvi, but the racing stable recently offered shares in the 3-year-old through Commonwealth (CMWLTH), the same company that sold shares in GI Kentucky Derby hero Mage (Good Magic).

The final running time was 1:42.57.

Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0. Sales History: $750,000 '23 OBSAPR.

O-Gandharvi LLC; B-Jason Hall and BCS Thoroughbreds; T-Bob Baffert.

PARENTING 👪 ($3.60) left the rest of the field at daycare and headed to work in the $100,000 Affirmed Stakes at @santaanitapark. The 3-year-old Justify (@coolmoreamerica) colt was ridden @JJHernandezS19 and trained by @BobBaffert.
