Following his runner-up showing in Wednesday's Windsor Castle Stakes during the Royal Ascot meeting, Gabaldon (Gone Astray) has returned to the States and will now be pointed to a long-range goal of making it to the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Del Mar.

Having punched his ticket into the field at the Royal meeting via the Royal Palm Juvenile Stakes May 11, the grey almost pulled a shocker in the contest from his stands' side position. Blazing a trail as the frontrunner after the large field of 27 split into two packs, Gabaldon made eventual winner Ain't Nobody (Ire) (Sands of Mali {Fr}) work for every step to get by, only doing so in the final yards to score by a length.

“He came out of the race good and he traveled [well], too,” said trainer Joseph D'Angelo Friday at Gulfstream Park after flying to Miami Thursday. “Right now, he's at Churchill Downs in quarantine. All looks good with him. Everything is in good order.”

D'Angelo added, “I was very confident in him. I really liked him for this race. I thought he would be so, so tough…[Gabaldon] is going to decide where he goes. We have to give him time after a long trip.”
