The fifth and final day of the Royal Ascot carnival gets underway on Saturday, with a bumper seven-race program set for decision. The time-honoured Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes (1200m) headlines the action, with a competitive field of 14 taking their place in the prestigious sprinting feature. The rain should hold off leading into the weekend, with the opening race scheduled to get underway at 11:30pm AEST (2:30pm local time).

Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes Tip: Kinross

Kinross was a model of consistency in his last preparation, producing two wins and three minor placings across his six starts. He finished the campaign with a runner-up effort at this course and distance in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint Stakes (1200m) on October 21, seemingly peaking on the run as he got nosed out by Art Power. This has been the target since being sent to the paddock, and with Rossa Ryan set to get the gun run on the near side rail from barrier 13, Kinross should go close to securing his third Group 1 win.

Hardwicke Stakes: Continuous

Continuous returns in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes (2400m) and clearly brings the elite form-lines to this classy staying feature. He was a dominant winner in the Group 1 St Leger Stakes (2900m) at Doncaster on September 16 before being sent to the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (2400m), managing to finish fifth amongst the world’s best stayers. The son of Heart’s Cry might be underdone first-up, but provided she’s at her best, Continuous must be considered the one to beat.

Best Bet at Royal Ascot: River Tiber

The Group 3 Jersey Stakes (1400m) has been built as a race between two, as River Tiber and Haatem go head-to-head after matching motors behind Rosallion in the Group 1 2,000 Irish Guineas (1600m). The drop back to seven furlongs should be ideal for the former, as the Aiden O’Brien-trained three-year-old faded out of the contest, with the mile proving a bridge too far. Watch for Ryan Moore to track across and lead from barrier seven, giving River Tiber every chance of staying the trip.

Best Value at Royal Ascot: Approval

Tom Marquand and Williams Haggas will be looking to combine with Approval in Class 2 Golden Gates Stakes (2000m). He’s on the short back-up after an electrifying performance in Class 5 company at Windsor on June 10, making every post a winner to score by 4.3 lengths. This is much tougher on paper, but with a confidence-building win under his belt, Approval can figure in this at the each-way price with top horse racing bookmakers.
