Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 22 Journalists Share Posted June 22 What Sha Tin Races Where Sha Tin Racecourse – Tai Po Rd, Sha Tin District, Hong Kong When Sunday, June 23, 2024 First Race 4pm HKT (6pm AEST) Visit Dabble Hong Kong racing returns to Sha Tin on Sunday afternoon, with the Group 3 Premier Cup (1400m) and Group 3 Premier Plate (1800m) sharing top billing on a bumper 11-race program. The rail is in the A position the entire circuit, and with no significant rainfall expected to hit the course proper in the lead-up, punters can anticipate a Good 4 surface. The opening event is scheduled to get underway at 4pm local time. Premier Cup Tip: Mugen Mugen gets his chance to add black type to the resume after a terrific performance in the Group 3 Sha Tin Vase (1200m) on June 2. He got back to last turning for home and was no match for Ka Ying Rising, but finished off with a withering burst to suggest the 1400m would be his ideal trip moving forward. He gets in with 52kg as Karis Teetan takes the reins, and with a genuine tempo engaged in this field of seven, watch for Mugen to be storming over the top in the final furlong. Premier Cup Race 8 – #5 Mugen (3) 5yo Gelding | T: Pierre Ng | J: Karis Teetan (52kg) Bet with Picklebet Premier Plate Tip: Chancheng Glory There’s no doubt Galaxy Patch could be the rising star in this field, but it’s hard to ignore the setup for Chancheng Glory in the Group 3 Premier Plate. The son of Mor Spirit was nosed out in the shadows of the post in the Group 3 Lion Rock Trophy (1600m) on June 2, with the four-year-old attempting to make every post a winner. He gets a 4kg swing in the weights this time, and with Harry Bentley adopting similar front-running tactics in this, Chancheng Glory should prove hard to chase down. Premier Plate Race 9 – #8 Chancheng Glory (6) 4yo Gelding | T: Francis Lui | J: Harry Bentley (52kg) Bet with Playup Best Bet at Sha Tin: Steps Ahead Back-to-back runner-up performances should have Steps Ahead ready to peak as he gets to 1400m for the first time in the campaign. Francis Lui-trained gelding finished closed off impressively behind Lucy In The Sky at Sha Tin on June 2, and although he was well-beaten by 1.8 lengths, he spaced third by another two lengths crossing the wire. Hugh Bowman should be able to take closer order from stall five, so provided he gains an economical run, Steps Ahead should shirk the maiden tag at the third time of asking. Best Bet Race 5 – #4 Steps Ahead (5) 3yo Gelding | T: Francis Lui | J: Hugh Bowman (59.5kg) Bet with Neds Next Best at Sha Tin: Master Mastermind Master Mastermind showed a blistering turn-of-foot over 1200m at Sha Tin on May 26, and although he couldn’t match motors with Divano, it was a solid performance by the lightly raced three-year-old. David Hayes elects to step him over 1400m second-up in this wide-open Class 4 contest, and with Hugh Bowman electing to stay in the saddle, take that as a guide the son of Deep Field still has plenty of upside moving forward.
