Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 22, 2024 Journalists Posted June 22, 2024 Vahva (f, 4, Gun Runner–Holiday Soiree, by Harlan's Holiday), a last out winner of the GI Derby City Distaff Stakes May 4, delivered a one-length victory over Positano Sunset (Goldencents) as the 2-5 favorite in Saturday's GIII Chicago S. at Churchill Downs. Society (Gun Runner) tired late to finish third after setting the pace. Vahva broke like a shot and was kept within striking distance of the aforementioned 2022 GI Cotillion Stakes winner in third. She reached even terms at the top of the stretch and the stage was set. Those two hooked up down the stretch and raced shoulder to shoulder. Vahva shook free of the tiring pacesetter in deep stretch and was never seriously threatened by the fast-closing runner-up. Vahva is now four-for-four beneath the Twin Spires. The final time for seven furlongs was a sharp 1:21.01. Lifetime Record: 13-6-3-2. Sales history: $280,000 yrl '21 KEESEP.
