I know this has been done to death before but so sad to see this once iconic race at the level it is now at.

I remember going to Ellerslie as a young fella and having to climb to the top of the old open top public stand to find a place to see the race. Packed to the rafters in those days.

Two horses that stick in mind - Silver Wraith because he was just brilliant that day and Our Shah because I backed him and made a bit!!

Happy days...

Looking for photos of the 1958 winner Japonica.

Family have misplaced the winners photo across the line.
