(Photo by Pat Scala/Racing Photos) Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards have received a report from Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) confirming that a prohibited substance was detected in a sample collected from the Austy Coffey trained racehorse, Koyuga Breeze. The report relates to a post-race urine sample taken from Koyuga Breeze after running over 1600 metres at Swan Hill Racecourse on April 9, 2024, with the horse winning the race. RASL reported that the urine sample was shown to contain Caffeine and its metabolites, Theophylline and Paraxanthine. The Australian Racing Forensics Laboratory also reported that it had detected Caffeine and its metabolites, Theophylline and Paraxanthine within the reserve portion of the urine sample. Caffeine and its metabolites Theophylline and Paraxanthine are central nervous system stimulants and are prohibited substances in accordance with the Australian Rules of Racing. RV Stewards initially informed Mr Coffey of the irregularity on May 15, 2024. Mr Coffey has since been informed of the confirmatory findings and that RV Stewards are continuing their investigation.
