Horse racing in Victoria heads to the Bendigo Jockey Club on Thursday afternoon for a stacked 10-race meeting. With persistent rain in Victoria to begin the week, it is no surprise to see the track come up as a Heavy 9. The rail will stick to its true position, with the action from the ‘Nursery of Champions’ set to commence at 12pm AEST.

Best Bet at Bendigo: Struck Gold

Struck Gold was a dominant victor at Sale on June 11 when stalking the speed and putting the race away in fine style on a Heavy 8 surface. That was over 1212m, and as he steps back up to 1300m, the four-year-old looks poised to string together consecutive victories for the first time in his career. The son of Castledale will need a touch of luck from barrier 13, but if Ethan Brown can find some cover within the first 200m, Struck Gold should prove too strong late.

Best Bet

Race 9 – Struck Gold #4 Struck Gold (13)

4yo Gelding | T: Anthony & Sam Freedman | J: Ethan Brown (61kg)

Next Best at Bendigo: White Bear

White Bear is seven weeks between runs and is sure to appreciate the slight drop back in grade to a midweek BM64. The Mike Moroney-trained gelding has not been beaten far in his last four starts in Saturday metro grade, and they’ve all turned out to be strong form races. The last time he was in BM64 company, the four-year-old disposed of his rivals by five lengths at Benalla in a dominant all-the-way victory.

Next Best

Race 10 – White Bear #6 White Bear (1)

4yo Gelding | T: Mike Moroney | J: Zac Spain (61kg)

Best Value at Bendigo: Savage Love

Based on her last-start third at the Bendigo 1600m, Savage Love looks poised to run a big race third-up at the same course and distance. The five-year-old made up a stack of ground in the home straight after being slow away from the barriers, missing by less than a length. If Craig Newitt can dig her out of the gates and have the Tarzino mare settled midfield, it is just a question of whether she can handle the slop.

Best Value

Race 4 – Savage Love Silks #14 Savage Love (9)

5yo Mare | T: Debbie Wills | J: Craig Newitt (57.5kg)
