Saturday horse racing will return to Eagle Farm this weekend, with a nine-race card scheduled to kick off at 11:58am AEST. Although the track was rated as a Soft 5 on Wednesday, there is no rain forecast for the remainder of the week, and the surface is expected to improve into the Good range by raceday. The rail will be in the +0.5m position for the entire circuit.

Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Zaphod

Zaphod made his Australian debut at Scone on July 2, and the Kris Lees-trained galloper proved way too good for his rivals over 1700m. This son of Zarak placed in Group 3 company in Europe before being sent over to the Lees stable, and it was evident of his class in his fresh victory. With little to no speed in this contest, Andrew Mallyon can find the front on Zaphod, and if he shows a similar finishing burst, he will win again.

Best Bet

3yo Gelding | T: Kris Lees | J: Andrew Mallyon (57.5kg)

Next Best at Eagle Farm: Manhood

Annabel Neasham and Robbie Dolan will combine with Manhood as the five-year-old gelding returns for his upcoming campaign, off the back of a strong trial victory at Deagon. This son of Headwater has a very good record fresh (5:3-1-0) and he will drop down in the weights for this start. If Dolan can find the one-one position from barrier four, Manhood’s blistering turn of foot will give him every chance to return with a win.

Best Value at Eagle Farm: Fifth Position

Fifth Position will get another chance in the second event after he went way too hard in front in his last start over 1800m at this track on July 10. The Tony Gollan-trained gelding led the field by more than six lengths, half way through the race, before wobbling around and struggling to run out the race in the final 400m. Last start can only be described as a fitness run, and now that he rises in trip to 2200m, it is expected that Fifth Position will perform much better with a much more economical run on speed.

Best Value

8yo Gelding | T: Tony Gollan | J: James Orman (59.5kg)
