The Factor Colt Named MHBA Grand Champion

David and JoAnn Hayden's Dark Hollow Farm came away victorious in three of the four classes at the 90th annual Maryland Horse Breeders Association's Yearling Show held Sunday at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium.

Dark Hollow Farm won the show's top prize with its The Factor colt, who was awarded the grand champion trophy by this year's judge, longtime bloodstock agent Rick Abbot.

The Haydens have now won 19 classes (solely or in partnership), since 1989 with grand champions in 2009 and 2014.

A total of 59 yearlings were judged Sunday and are now eligible for the $40,000 premium award which is split annually, with $20,000 going to the exhibitors of the four show contestants who earn the most money as 2-year-olds during 2025, and another $20,000 divided among the exhibitors of the four highest-earning 3-year-old runners the next year.

The MHBA Yearling Show is open to all yearlings eligible for Maryland-bred registration with four classes: one for Maryland-sired colts and geldings, one for Maryland-sired fillies, out-of-state-sired colts and geldings, and out-of-state-sired fillies.

Blofeld, who stands at Murmur Farm in Darlington, was the recipient of the Northview Get-of-Sire trophy as the top Maryland sire of the show.
