Wyong Race Club is the destination for NSW racing on Thursday afternoon, with a competitive eight-part program scheduled to get underway at 12:20pm local time. The rail returns to the true position the entire way around, and with nothing but sunny skies predicted in the lead-up, participants are all but assured of racing on a genuine Good 4 surface for race-day.

Best Bet at Wyong: Odegaard

Odegaard was impressive debuting at Hawkesbury on May 25, dispatching his rivals by a half-length. The Edward Cummings barn has taken their time selecting a second-up target for the son of Shamus Award, with this Class 1 contest shaping up perfectly on paper. Tim Clark has all the options from barrier three, and whether he elects to lead or take a sit in behind the speed, Odegaard should prove far too classy for provincial company.

Next Best at Wyong: Slick ‘N’ Quick

Slick ‘N’ Quick hit the line well in a recent jump-out at Warwick Farm on July 15 and looks prepared for a first-up assault. The Pride Of Dubai filly was taken back towards the rear of the field on that occasion before being urged along in the final furlong, showing an impressive turn-of-speed under Zac Lloyd. Keagan Latham gets the nod for race-day, and with barrier six allowing Slick ‘N’ Quick to take a mid-field sit with cover throughout, watch for her to be charging down the centre of the course on debut.

Best Value at Wyong: Automated

Automated has been progressing nicely at the barrier trials and is well prepared on debut for the Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou stable. The son of Trapeze Artist was doing his best work late at Rosehill on July 12, striding through the line under her own steam despite the Heavy 9 surface. He should appreciate the firming ground at Wyong, and although he’ll need to overcome the awkward draw (8), Automated should be a major player in this wide-open maiden contest.
