Belmont Park will host a competitive nine-race meeting this Saturday afternoon, with the opening race scheduled to jump at 11:24am AEST. After being rated as a Soft 6 on Thursday, the track is expected to worsen throughout the day, with heavy rain forecast to fall on raceday. The rail will be pushed out to the +10m position for the entire circuit, which should allow the track to play favourably for on-speed runners.

Best Bet at Belmont: Captain Pluto

Captain Pluto kicked off his second racing preparation in Western Australia with a dominant 3.5-length victory at this track and trip on August 3. The Grant & Alana Williams-trained galloper ran home from the back of the field, took over with 150m to go, and booted clear to win in fine style. From a better barrier (3) on Saturday, Captain Pluto can record back-to-back wins with a similar performance.

Next Best at Belmont: Sofia’s Symphony

Michael Lane tested Sofia’s Symphony in the Listed Beaufine Stakes first-up, but she was unfortunately caught up in a pack of runners after a horse fell in front of her. Although this daughter of Smart Missile ran into some bad luck, she still battled on and finished third, beaten 2.4 lengths by Puli. With the benefit of one run under her belt and drawing barrier one, William Pike can settle Sofia’s Symphony in the box seat and receive the run of the race.

Best Value at Belmont: Just Famous

Just Famous broke his maiden impressively at Northam over 1100m first-up, as the Donna Riordan-trained galloper kicked off the preparation in fine style on a Heavy track. The son of Justify as raced on two Heavy tracks this time in, and will be at peak fitness for this contest, coming off an unlucky third-place finish at Pinjarra. Steven Parnham will be legged aboard for his first ride on this gelding, and if Just Famous can hold his spot behind the speed from barrier one, he will get every chance to win again.
