SIGNALMAN (c, 2, General Quarters–Trip South, by Trippi) had been knocking at the door of graded win in his last two starts and broke through Saturday with a gritty score in the GII Kentucky Jockey Club S. at Churchill Downs. Saving ground in sixth through a half in :46.83, the $32,000 FTKOCT buy made quick progress up the fence heading into the backstretch to sit right on the leader’s heels. Slipping through on the inside to take command, he held off late surge from Plus Que Parfait (Point of Entry) to register a narrow victory in 1:45.29. Runner-up to ‘TDN Rising Star’ Sir Truebadour (More Than Ready) on debut in the sloppy here May 17, Signalman earned his diploma next out at Saratoga Sept. 1. Runner-up to the re-opposing Knicks Go (Paynter) in Keeneland’s GI Breeders’ Futurity S. Oct. 6, he was third to undefeated ‘TDN Rising Star’ and divisional leader Game Winner (Cany Ride {Arg}) in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile over this track and trip Nov. 2. Lifetime Record: 5-2-2-1.
