Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 24, 2024 Journalists Share Posted August 24, 2024 What Alice Springs Races Where Pioneer Park Racecourse – Stuart Hwy, Connellan NT 0870 When Sunday, August 25, 2024 First Race 2:11pm ACST Visit Dabble After six weeks, racing resumes in Central Australia, with the Alice Springs Turf Club hosting six races on Sunday. The annual Truckies Day meeting kick starts the 2024/25 season with the $40,000 Red Centre Winter Series Final (1200m) taking centre stage. The rail will be in the true position and Pioneer Park will be a good dirt surface. BEST BET: Altar Boy Not only is Altar Boy the form horse in the Red Centre, but the five-year-old gelding is arguably the best horse in town after winning his past four starts. Highly competitive in Queensland, Altar Boy was a first-up sixth over 1200m (BM54) at Pioneer Park in May before hitting form. The son of The Mission posted three comfortable wins over 1400m in June at BM54, 0-64 and BM64 level before a last start win by 4.5 lengths over 1600m (0-70) on July 14. Stepping back to 1200m and gate eight is the only concern. Best Bet Race 2 – #1 Altar Boy (8) 5yo Gelding | T: Terry Gillett | J: Stan Tsaikos (60.5kg) Bet with Bet365 NEXT BEST BET: Red Wraith Red Wraith returns from the Top End where he was a last-start winner over 1200m (0-70) on Darwin Cup Day on August 5. Pinging from the inside gate, the five-year-old gelding never left the fence after sharing the early lead and eventually skipped away passing the 500m. Red Wraith was well clear rounding the home turn and was in no danger of defeat before easing up on the line to win by two lengths. Red Wraith, who drops 4kg for Sunday’s race, has had 13 starts in the Red Centre for six wins and four minor placings. Next Best Race 6 – #5 Red Wraith (4) 5yo Gelding | T: Paul Gardner | J: Lek Maloney (a2) (58kg) Bet with Neds BEST VALUE: Tango Stepz Tango Stepz was an $8 quote with horse racing bookmakers through the week despite a last start win over 1200m (BM67) on July 14. The daughter of Sidestep saluted on her NT debut over 1000m (0-70) last September and finished third in two of her next three starts before getting home over 1000m (0-64) in March. Tango Stepz was winless in her next four starts, but showed improvement before bouncing back to form six weeks ago.
