National Hunt stallion Triple Threat (Fr) sustained a mortal injury in his paddock, Capital Stud announced on Wednesday. The 14-year-old son of Monsun (Ger) was standing his first season at the stud for a private fee.

“The whole Capital Stud team is devastated by the news,” said the stud's Ger O'Neill. “He was very popular in his first season here and we were looking forward to covering many more mares with him in future, but sadly it wasn't to be.

“However, we look forward to seeing his first Irish foals arrive next year and we're confident they will represent him well in the sales ring and on the racecourse in the coming years.”

Bred by Team Valor and Gary Barber, the bay son of Drei (Lyphard) won a trio of graded/group races in the U.S. and France, and was also third in the 2015 GI Northern Dancer Turf Stakes at Woodbine. Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, he earned just over $495,000 in 23 starts, and first stood at Haras du Mont Goubert. This year marked his first season standing outside of France.

Triple Threat was proving adept with his National Hunt progeny, with his best including graded hurdle winner Sans Bruit (Fr), listed hurdle winner Rosa Kleb (Fr) and graded/listed performers AQPS Jumper Sacre (Fr) and Pacific One (Fr).
