Star jockey Jamie Kah has secured the ride on Point King, trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, for the Melbourne Cup.

The Freedman stable confirmed the news via social media on Monday morning, with the lightweight hope on the third line of betting for the Melbourne Cup.

The five-year-old, which will carry 50.5kg in the 3200m feature, is paying $15 to win and $4.50 the place in Melbourne Cup futures betting with Neds Australia.

Kah committing to Point King means she will not ride The Map, a South Australian horse she has had notably success on, including two wins and a narrow Adelaide Cup defeat.

The Map, which is also ballot exempt for the Melbourne Cup after winning the Andrew Ramsden, will be a hot ticket for lighter jockeys, with it set to carry 50kg at Flemington.

Kah and Point King combined to claim victory in the Archer Stakes over 2500m in September, with this earning the Freedman horse a ticket into the Melbourne Cup.

Kah is undefeated on the horse, having also guided Point King to a dominant win over 2040m at The Valley in August.

Ben Melham piloted Point King to a runner-up finish in the Bart Cummings over 2520m on Saturday, narrowly missing out to Just Fine, the tiring leader.

Kah will wear the famous navy blue silks with white armbands of record Cup-winning owner Lloyd Williams, who boasts seven Melbourne Cup victories, the latest in 2020. Point King’s ownership is shared with billionaire James Packer.

Kah is set to return to racing on Caulfield Cup/Everest day, October 19, after completing a three-week suspension.
