Western Australian horse racing returns to Ascot Racecourse for the summer months, kicking off with a competitive nine-race program this Saturday afternoon. With warm weather forecast for the remainder of the week, the track is expected to stay in the Good range for the whole meeting. The rail will be in the +2m position for the entire circuit, with the opening race scheduled to jump at 12:39pm AWST.

Best Bet at Ascot: Rope Them In

Rope Them In returned in fine style at Belmont on September 28, where the Steve Wolfe-trained gelding settled behind the speed, took over in the concluding stages, and ran away with a dominant win. This son of Playing God will have taken good fitness benefit from his fresh run and even though he rises in class, he looks well placed again. If Rope Them In can replicate his last performance, he will be winning again.

Next Best at Ascot: Almighty Class

Almighty Class will return for his fourth racing preparation, following an underwhelming performance in The Quokka at the end of last campaign. This lightly raced four-year-old gelding has only been to the races six times for Mitchell Pateman; however, his two trial victories have shown that he has a lot of ability. From barrier six, Holly Watson can settle in the one-one position behind the speed, and if he shows a similar turn of foot that he did in his last trial, Almighty Class will prove very hard to beat.

Best Value at Ascot: Amjaad

Summer Dickson nearly snatched a victory with Amjaad when the five-year-old mare was on debut for the new stable when she was nabbed in the shadows of the post and finished third over 1400m at Belmont. This daughter of Flying Artie settled outside the leader, and even though they went way too hard out in front, this girl battled on gamely and nearly pinched the race at massive odds with horse racing bookmakers. Steven Parnham has retained the ride, which is a massive push, and if Amjaad produces a similar performance, she will take some catching.
