The Moe Cup (2050m) headlines a bumper nine-race card in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley this Friday. With persistent rain forecast for the day, it is likely runners will be racing on a deteriorating track as the day goes on. The rail sticks to its true position, while the first race on Moe Cup Day 2024 is set to commence at 12:40pm AEDT.

Moe Cup Tip: Sunsets

Sunsets couldn’t quite reel in the leaders when finishing third in the Murtoa Cup (2050m) on October 5. The four-year-old gelding seems to produce his best performances when chasing a genuine tempo, and with the likes of Keats and Independent Road set to run this at a genuine clip, the race sets up perfectly for him to strike third-up. Daniel Moor will have the son of Dundeel settled towards the rear, but with a strong finish, Sunsets looks to hard to hold out in the 2024 Moe Cup.

Best Bet at Moe: Alma Rise

Although she has just one win to her name, Alma Rise has not finished further back than second in her four career starts. The four-year-old mare return with a runner-up performance behind subsequent Coongy Cup winner Kingswood at Sandown on September 28, going down by 2.3 lengths. That form stands out in a BM70 field, and if Luke Nolen can find a spot one off the rail from the widest barrier, Alma Rise should have no issue in overhauling the leaders second-up.

Next Best at Moe: Transactions

Three-year-old colt Transactions has already reached his ‘D-Day’ at start three. A poor barrier cost him at Moonee Valley last time out, but from barrier six on Friday, Jamie Mott should have no issue in settling the son of Capitalist a bit closer to the speed. The blinkers go on for the first time, and if Transactions has a chance to show his turn of foot, he should win this.
