Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 2, 2024 Journalists Share Posted November 2, 2024 The outside draw was no issue as Henri Matisse (Ire) (c, 2, Wootton Bassett {GB})–Immortal Verse {Ire}, by Pivotal {GB}) came flying late to win the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf to give trainer Aidan O'Brien a record seventh win in the race. The only O'Brien runner in the race, the 7-2 shot stayed at the back-third of the field and was able to save ground into the first turn while racing two wide ahead of Aomori City (Fr) (Oasis Dream {GB}) who briefly delayed the start after breaking through the gate. Two wide and next to last the entire way up the backstretch through fractions of :22.65 and :46.31, Henri Matisse began to make an outside charge around the far turn and swung for home the widest of the group as drama unfolded to his inside involving eventual fourth and fifth-place finishers New Century (GB) (Kameko) and Dream On (Not This Time). Charging down the crown of the course, Henri Matisse got up ahead of Iron Man Cal (Collected) with Aomori City getting third. Lifetime Record: 6-4-1-0.
