Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 2, 2024 Journalists Share Posted November 2, 2024 Let go at odds of 15-1, CITIZEN BULL (c, 2, Into Mischief–No Joke, by Distorted Humor) made every yard of the running in Friday's GI FanDuel Breeders' Cup Juvenile and beat home stablemate Gaming (Game Winner) to give trainer Bob Baffert a record sixth victory inthe event. Hill Road (Quality Road) was up on the line for third. The complexion of the Juvenile–which mapped to have a generous pace–was changed dramatically at the start when favored 'TDN Rising Star' East Avenue (Medaglia d'Oro) stumbled badly from gate one, losing virtually any conceivable chance while having to try to win the race from the tail. Citizen Bull, meantime, was allowed to coast through an opening quarter in :23.44 and a hasslefree half-mile in :47.89 in the grasp of Martin Garcia. Maintaining the lead on the turn as the likes of East Avenue and 'TDN Rising Stars' Chancer McPatrick (McKinzie) and Ferocious (Flatter) were making no serious impact, Citizen Bull was firmly in front into the final furlong and easily held sway. Citizen Bull is the eighth Breeders' Cup winner and first in the Juvenile for Into Mischief and a fifth for Garcia, all for Baffert and his first since guiding Drefong in the 2016 Sprint. Baffert's Breeders' Cup count now stands at 19.
