Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 2, 2024 Journalists Share Posted November 2, 2024 Mrs Fitri Hay's STARLUST (GB) (c, 3, Zoustar {Aus}–Beyond Desire {GB}, by Invincible Spirit {Ire}) gave trainer Ralph Beckett and jockey Rossa Ryan another memorable success on the international stage in an eventful running of the GI Prevagen Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar. With the rail-drawn Believing (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) a late scratch, having flipped in the gate and delaying the start by a good 10 minutes, Cogburn (Not This Time) left a bit tardily but rushed up and set the pace as Bradsell (GB) (Tasleet {GB}) came across to dispute it from his wide draw. The top European sprinter was flat-footed on the bend, allowing Cogburn to get away and the favorite looked gone. But he began to paddle inside the final furlong, and Starlust made eyecatching progress inside, came out and looked to bother Isivunguvungu (SAf) (What a Winter {SAf}) and was home first as Motorious (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}) and Ag Bullet (Twirling Candy) were also involved in the finish. A stewards' inquiry took place, but the result was allowed to stand after a lengthy discussion. Ryan and Beckett teamed to win the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe with Bluestocking (GB) (Camelot {GB}).
