Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 2, 2024 Journalists Share Posted November 2, 2024 In a race that was hers to lose after several prominent withdrawals, 'TDN Rising Star' and champion-elect 3-year-old filly Thorpedo Anna (f, 3, Fast Anna–Sataves, by Uncle Mo) effortlessly captured Saturday's GI Breeders' Cup Distaff at Del Mar. Traveling comfortably despite 4-1 second choice Raging Sea (Curlin) staying glued to her outside flank, Thorpedo Anna at 2-5 set easy fractions of :23.81 and :47.99, then simply pulled away in the stretch to put both daylight on the field and an exclamation point on her championship season, which included five Grade I victories. Her sole loss this year was by a head to last year's champion 2-year-old colt Fierceness (City of Light) in the GI Travers Stakes. She returned to the winner's circle to cheers from the crowd and immediate consideration for Horse of the Year honors. Thorpedo Anna got the Distaff's nine furlongs in 1:49.10. Raging Sea held second, while Candied (Candy Ride {Arg}) finished third. Trainer Kenny McPeek confirmed in the winner's circle that the plan is to race Thorpedo Anna next year at four.
