(Photo by Reg Ryan/Racing Photos) Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) winner Veight is set to be gelded following an underwhelming spring campaign. Trainer Tony McEvoy, who works alongside his son Calvin, discussed the decision with Racing.com: “Wayne Mitchell controls most of the horse and he never wanted to sell the horse, but the phone didn’t ring either.” Veight, a four-year-old, concluded his three-year-old season on a high note with victory in the George Ryder. However, his spring campaign this year fell short of expectations, as he failed to place in any of his three starts, including a disappointing performance in the Golden Eagle (1500m), where he finished second-last. “He ran very flat and very plain. He drew 18 but Harry (Coffey) got him across well and he just ran a very poor race and he came back in and seemed fine,” McEvoy said. “So I think he might be changing his mind a little bit.” Horse racing news View the full article
