Tasmanian trainer Stuart Gandy has shared his reasoning for bringing Geegees Mistruth to Victoria for her upcoming run in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield this Saturday.

The daughter of Wordsmith has proven her consistency, with runner-up finishes in both the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) and the Group 3 Scarborough Stakes (1200m), along with a third-place result in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m).

“You always aim to get over here and compete on the big stage,” Gandy told Racing.com.

“She showed early days that she had untapped ability—even as a two-year-old, when she was winning, she was doing a lot wrong and still very raw.

“I suggested that we bring her over and test the waters, which we did, and she ran a ripping race first-up over here.

“She’s stabled in with Mathew Ellerton at Flemington, and I can’t thank Mathew enough, ripping people and great staff. She’s blossomed and definitely matured.”

The three-year-old filly heads into the race after a sixth-place finish in the The Vanity (1400m) at Flemington. Gandy remains optimistic about her recent form.

“I thought it was a really good run; she was good through the line, she pulled up really well, she pulled up better than the previous run,” he said.

“Positive, going up to the mile. She’s going to need a nice, economical run and just get on the back of something and get a nice trail in.”

Victory on Saturday would mark a maiden Group 1 win for both Gandy and sire Wordsmith.

“That would be the top of the career. It would be a huge privilege,” Gandy said. “I’d be very proud.”
