The program features Heat 1 of the Lightning Wet Season Series with the $40,000 final scheduled for Australia Day. There has been no rain in the Top End since November 3, but the forecast for Saturday is for partly cloudy conditions and possible showers with a top temperature of 34C. The rail will be in the true position and Fannie Bay will be a good dirt surface. BEST BET AT DARWIN: MR HAVE A CHAT During the Darwin Cup Carnival, Mr Have A Chat was victorious over 1100m in 0-66 grade. The seven-year-old gelding then finished second at Katherine in August before returning to Fannie Bay for another two seconds in September and October. The son of I’m All The Talk finally saluted on October 19 when he sat off the pace before toppling Change Is Coming over 1200m at 0-70 level. The outside gate on Saturday is a minor hurdle, but Mr Have A Chat has the ability to overcome that and salute. With Tricky Mikki well clear, Debating bridged the gap in the home straight and the pair went toe to toe before Phil Cole’s horse edged clear in the final stages. With two wins and five seconds from 10 starts in the NT, Reward For Effort’s four-year-old gelding appears to be getting back to his best form and Jarrod Todd in the saddle is a bonus. The five-year-old gelding wasn’t far away during October over 1300m when finishing fourth and third. The son of Cable Bay was camped off the speed before lunging late over 1600m in 0-64 grade on November 5 to finish a close second behind A Big Chance. A repeat performance can see Ankle Rolex feature in the finish at an each-way quote with horse racing bookmakers.
