Racing returns to Eagle Farm on Saturday afternoon for a bumper 10-race card as the Magic Millions Carnival looms large. The Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes (1200m) headlines a strong program that kicks off at 12:13pm AEST. The track was a Heavy 9 at the time of acceptances, but with clear skies and warm days forecast leading into raceday, a Soft surface is more than likely. The rail comes out 4.5m for the Eagle Farm races on December 21, 2024.

B.J. McLachlan Stakes Tip: Icarian Dream

Icarian Dram looks like she is desperate to get to 1200m, which she gets in the 2024 B.J. McLachlan Stakes. She hit the line strongly when finishing a head off The Playwright over 1100m at Rosehill on November 30 and arguably was going better than her rival, whom she meets again. Jason Collett will have this girl towards the rear of the field from barrier 13, but her turn of foot should be too good this time.

Members Mile Tip: Tannhauser

Tannhauser comes to the Listed Members Mile (1600m) on the back of an average first-up run in the Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m), but this is considerably easier. The four-year-old gelding finished 8.6 lengths off Private Eye, but he was held up for a run at a crucial point and should have finished a bit closer. He gets better as he gets deeper into his campaign, but second-up looks ideal this time in. Tannhauser has two wins and two other placings on wet ground, so he should handle the going nicely.

Falvelon Tip: Garza Blanca

Garza Blanca was a smart winner of the Listed Doveton Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on November 30. He overhauled It’sourtime relatively easily and managed to put six lengths on I Am Unstoppable back in third, suggesting he has returned in fine fettle. Garza Blanca has three wins and a second from five runs on Soft ground, so the track will not be an issue in The Falvelon (1200m).

Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Bezique

Returning from a five-month spell, the Tony Gollan-trained Bezique only has to hold her form of last campaign to return a winner. The five-year-old mare chased home the likes of Wollombi and Chinny Boom, which reads perfectly for this Class 6 1000m scamper. With just 58kg on her back after Emily Lang’s claim, Bezique should be adding a third fresh win from five attempts.

Next Best at Eagle Farm: Miss Joelene

Miss Joelene is yet to miss the top three in her first three runs this time in, albeit without winning. The Russian Revolution mare chased home the classy Navyonthehighway first-up before finishing second to Tranatlantic and Poetic Drama on Heavy going. She will handle these conditions with no issue, and as long as Ryan Maloney doesn’t get caught wide from barrier 10, the $2.80 on offer with horse racing bookmakers looks a great price.
