Jockeys Beany Panya and Blake Spriggs have been airlifted to hospital following a heavy fall at Moruya on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred around the 400m mark as the field turned for home, with both riders hitting the turf.

Spriggs’ mount, Blesstas, appeared to clip heels on the leader and fell, causing Panya’s horse, The Boomerang, who was racing on the outside, to become unbalanced and also come down.

“Beany has been in and out of consciousness and will be airlifted to hospital,” a Racing NSW statement confirmed.

“Blake is conscious but in a lot of pain, and he’s still being attended to on track by ambulance officers.

“Blake has head, chest and abdominal injuries and will also be airlifted to hospital.”

Spriggs had posted on social media earlier on Friday morning about his return from suspension.

“I’m back from an enforced holiday tomorrow with 7 rides at Moruya,” the post read.

“There looks to be a few chances amongst them & it has been a happy hunting ground the past few meetings”

The remainder of the meeting was abandoned, with two races still left on the program.

In some positive news, Sky Racing’s Kayla Nisbet reported on Thoroughbred Central that both horses escaped injury.

“Both horses we can report did come back to scale amazingly unscathed,” Nisbet said.
