Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 14 Journalists Posted February 14 The Chosen Vron (Vronsky), who defended his title in the GI Bing Crosby Stakes and won five of his six outings in 2024, has been named the champion California-bred older male and champion Cal-bred sprinter. He will be recognized along with the other divisional champions during ceremonies to be held Monday, Mar. 3, at the Le Meridien Hotel located across the street from Santa Anita. Trained by Eric Kruljac for a partnership that includes himself, Sondereker Racing LLC, Robert S. Fetkin and Richard Thornburgh, the chestnut gelding also added the open-company GIII San Carlos Stakes and Kona Gold Stakes prior to the Bing Crosby and he was last seen finishing a close runner-up in the GII Pat O'Brien Stakes Aug. 24. To date, The Chosen Vron has a sterling record of 19-2-2 from 25 starts and earnings in excess of $1.7 million. The Chosen Vron is one of three finalists for Cal-bred Horse of the Year alongside Big City Lights (Mr. Big) and champion older Cal-bred female Chismosa (Clubhouse Ride). The other divisional champions include: 2YO Male–Speedy Wilson (Tough Sunday) 2YO Filly–In the Air Tonight (Stay Thirsty) 3YO Male–Shady Tiger (Smiling Tiger) 3YO Filly–Grand Slam Smile (Smiling Tiger) Turf Horse–Kings River Knight (Acclamation) Among California stallions, Grazen was the leader by earnings for California-conceived foals and by number of winners among California-conceived horses. Stay Thirsty was the leading sire in turf earnings by California-conceived foals and 2-year-old earnings by California-conceived foals.
