Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 16 Journalists Share Posted February 16 Looking every ounce a top contender for the GI Longines Kentucky Oaks in 2 1/2 months' time, Godolphin homebred GOOD CHEER (f, 3, Medaglia d'Oro–Wedding Toast, by Street Sense) was dispatched as the 1-20 mortal in Saturday's GII Rachel Alexandra Stakes at the Fair Grounds and made light work of a field scratched down to just four rivals to run her undefeated streak to five on seasonal debut. Content to trail the quartet into the first turn beneath Luis Saez as Gowells Delight (Practical Joke) led, Good Cheer slid up the fence into third down the backstretch and was always traveling well within herself nearing the entrance to the second turn. Last, but within a couple lengths of the pacesetter at the top of the lane, Good Cheer muscled her way through one off the fence to wrest command with a furlong to travel and ran up the score from there. A maiden winner at first asking at Horseshoe Indianapolis, the bay rattled off three straight thereafter, capped by a 2 1/2-length victory in the GII Golden Rod Stakes in November. With the short field, Good Cheer picks up 25 points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks with her facile victory. Lifetime Record: 5-5-0-0. O/B-Godolphin (KY); T-Brad Cox. Good Cheer is too good! With nowhere to go at the top of the stretch, she muscles herself through to romp in the G2 Rachel Alexandra! @luissaezpty was aboard for trainer @bradcoxracing and @godolphin.
