Amelia’s Jewel has been nominated for the All-Star Mile (1600m), but trainer Annabel Neasham has tempered expectations of the mare heading to the Flemington feature, with plans for her to resume racing in Sydney instead.

Neasham, who trains in partnership with Rob Archibald, confirmed that Amelia’s Jewel will begin her campaign in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday week, bypassing the $2.5 million Group 1 All-Star Mile a week later.

“She trialled really well at Rosehill,” Neasham told Racing.com after Tuesday’s 1000-metre heat. “They went quick, but she was doing her best work late.”

Amelia’s Jewel, a three-time Group 1 runner-up last spring, is still chasing her first win under Neasham’s care.

“At this stage, the All-Star Mile is probably unlikely,” Neasham said.

“If Sydney gets too much rain, we’ll look at Melbourne, but we’re leaning towards staying here.”

Meanwhile, Sunshine In Paris, who finished second in Tuesday’s trial, remains on target for the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on March 8.
