The Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) is Victoria’s premier juvenile race, and the 2025 edition shapes as an even contest.

A field of 16 will battle it out at Caulfield on Saturday with $2 million on the line as connections look to claim Group 1 glory in a race that will boost one of these runners’ breeding prospects tenfold.

It is a wide-open edition of the Blue Diamond Stakes, as reflected on horse racing betting sites.

Field Of Play has been installed as a $5 favourite following his win in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m). My Gladiola shares the second line of betting with Cherish Me at $7 apiece, while last-start Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) winner Palm Angel ($9) is the only other runner at a single figure quote.

Tempted ($10), Devil Night ($13) and The Playwright ($13) are the ones at double-figure quotes who received early each-way support when Blue Diamond Stakes betting odds were released.

The Playwright looks to be the sole leader in the juvenile feature on Saturday, with his chances enhanced by drawing barrier three under Regan Bayliss.

My Gladiola and Wiltshire Square will likely come across the face of the field from barriers 11 and 13, respectively. Race favourite Field Of Play should be just off the speed, while Devil Night and Palm Angel will use their gun draws to settle in a forward position.

Market fancies Cherish Me and Tempted Me will settle towards the rear of the field, but they look the two most capable of hitting the line strongly.

Blue Diamond Stakes 2025 preview & form

Cherish Me brings a different form line to the Blue Diamond Stakes compared to most of her rivals, but her debut win at Geelong on January 4 suggests she has plenty of upside. She put two lengths on Cavalry Girl, who has been spruiked as one of the smartest juveniles in Victoria, and the way this Brazen Beau filly hit the line over 1100m suggests the extra 100m will suit. Jamie Melham will have her settled towards the rear of the field, but on the back of a genuine tempo, Cherish Me can thunder home down the heart of the straight to win it.

Tempted was unlucky when beaten by The Playwright in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m), and he is another who will appreciate the 1200m. Field Of Play is undefeated through two starts, and his Prelude win has him as a deserving favourite. There are plenty more winning chances in the 2025 Blue Diamond Stakes field, so this is definitely a race where quaddie punters should be playing wide.
