Breaking just a touch behind the favorite, the 4-1 shot settled third as stablemates Brilliantly and Cooey (Girvin) battled into the far turn. As Cooey faded on the rail, Brilliantly pushed on and opened up a gap but Formula Rossa drew closer with an outside bid at the quarter pole and impressed in the final sixteenth to win first-time out under Mike Smith.
