Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted March 1 Journalists Share Posted March 1 5th-Santa Anita, $67,000, Msw, 3-1, 4/5yo, f/m, 6fT, 1:08.78, fm, 1 3/4 lengths. QUICK BROWN FOX (f, 4, Justify–Bast {MGISW, $852,200}, by Uncle Mo), the first foal out of MGISW Bast (Uncle Mo), came in off nearly a year-long layoff to break her maiden on the turf. Debuted on the main track last April, she was beaten just a neck as the favorite before going to the sidelines for owner/breeder Spendthrift Farm who took their time bringing her back to the Richard Mandella operation. Favored at even money Saturday, Quick Brown Fox was anything but early, racing in the back half of the field along the inside behind fractions of :21.62 and :44.52. Overcoming a troubled trip around the far turn which saw her have to take up while also needing racing room, Quick Brown Fox finally broke through a gap and surged to the front to win by 1 3/4 lengths over Nafisa (Quality Road). Millionarie Bast took three Grade I races in her career before selling to Spendthrift Farm for $4.2m at FTKNOV in 2020. Quick Brown Fox is her first foal and she has since produced 3-year-old The Last Straw (Into Mischief) who is placed on the main track. After not taking to Into Mischief in 2023 and 2024, she foaled a full-brother to The Last Straw this year. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $49,800.
