Dom Sutton has stated that the possibility of backing up Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) winner Feroce in Saturday’s Group 1 All-Star Mile (1600m) is still being considered.

Feroce, the son of Super Seth, earned an automatic spot in the $2.5 million race after his impressive win over the weekend, which also marked Sutton’s first Group 1 victory.

“I had him out in the day yards this morning (Sunday) and actually had to bring him in because he was bucking and rearing and carrying on, so he had to go straight back in his box. But he’s very bright,” Sutton told Racing.com.

“We won’t make any decisions on whether we back him up probably until Tuesday; we’ll just give him all the time that he needs.

“My gut was always to head to the Rosehill Guineas and get him out over 2000 metres, but now we know he hates soft ground that’s going to put a hold on that.

“Sydney gets very wet this time of year, so we haven’t made any set plans.”

While not making a final decision on the three-year-old’s next step, Sutton also noted that the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 29 is on the radar.
