Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted 22 hours ago Journalists Share Posted 22 hours ago Add another top 3-year-old filly to the tally for Darley stallion Medaglia d'Oro, who has some good ones on the GI Kentucky Oaks trail this year in Good Cheer and Ballerina d'Oro. They excel on the dirt, but daughter Nitrogen (f, 3, Medaglia d'Oro-Tiffany Case, by Uncle Mo), winner of Saturday's 42nd running of the GIII Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay Downs, is one for the grass. Restrained in a tracking spot throughout the :23.15 and :47.15 early fractions, the D. J. Stable LLC homebred was let loose in the stretch. It took her some time to unfurl her giant stride, but when she did, she chased down pacesetter Lush Lips (GB) (Ten Sovereigns {Ire}), collaring her late despite drifting, to win by about a half-length. Nitrogen covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:40.42. Deloraine (Candy Ride {Arg}) was third, while Opulent Restraint (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) finished fourth. Third in last fall's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, as well as in the GI Natalma Stakes, Nitrogen won her sophomore debut in January's Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream Park. O/B-D. J. Stable LLC (KY); T-Mark Casse; J-Jose Ortiz. #9 NITROGEN ($5.00) sits off the pace with @jose93_ortiz and they fire in time to win the $200,000 Florida Oaks (G3) for trainer @markecasse and owner D.J.
