Snow In May continued her rise through the ranks with an impressive victory in the Listed Canberra Guineas (1400m) on Sunday, March 9 at Canberra.

Trained by John O’Shea & Tom Charlton and ridden by Tyler Schiller, the filly overcame a slow start to power home late and claim the $165,000 feature.

Jumping awkwardly from barrier five, Snow In May found herself towards the rear of the field early as Shangri La Spring dictated the pace up front.

French Ruler and Zounaka also pressed forward, while Schiller remained patient aboard the daughter of The Autumn Sun, settling midfield and threading a passage between runners.

Turning for home, Shangri La Spring was still in control, but Snow In May was beginning to unwind with a powerful surge.

Once clear, she quickly reeled in the leader and, despite French Ruler closing late, held on to claim the Listed Canberra Guineas as the $2.70 bookmaker favourite.

Schiller was pleased to see the filly return to winning form.
“Probably a touch weaker grade than what she’s been in against Lady Shenandoah and that. She’s been matching them well, but good to see her come back, strike well, and she executed everything really well.”

He admitted she was forced to make her run a little earlier than ideal.
“I had to expose her too soon when I got the gap. If I didn’t take it, I feel like it would have disappeared before I got there. So I took the gap, and she was probably just a touch soft late. But I also think she’s got that really sharp 200, and she’s probably a bit better held up for another hundred meters.”

The victory adds another feature race to Snow In May’s growing resume, which now includes four wins from seven starts and career earnings of $383,400.

Schiller is confident the stable has her on the right path.
“The way John’s training, I think they’re in great form, and hopefully, they can keep going forward with this filly.”

The stable will now assess Snow In May’s next steps, with currently having her priced at $26 odds to claim the Group 1 Coolmore Classic on March 15.
