Public Attention’s sprinting future

Leading trainer Mick Price says Public Attention‘s (NZ) (Written Tycoon) racing days could be as a sprinter, with doubts over whether the grey colt sees out a strong longer trip.

The Written Tycoon colt won first-up over 1200m and ran well in the Gr.2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) won by Broadsiding but may not have seen out the 1500m in the inaugural NZB Kiwi in New Zealand.

Public Attention was targeted at and eventually ran fifth in last year’s Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

“He’s run 1400m, 1500m, 1600m and each time at the end of those races I’ve thought he’s really started to slug it out a bit, whereas in his 1200-metre races he’s been hard to the line,” said Price, who trains in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr.

“I think I might be on the wrong track trying to get a mile out of him. Even though he’s out of that beautiful New Zealand mile family, he’s a Written Tycoon and I reckon he’s better off fresh.”

Public Attention will be next seen at the races contesting the Gr.2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) in Sydney on April 12.

“He’ll be fresh up into the Arrowfield,” Price said.

Public Attention is a $15 chance in Sportsbet’s early market for the Arrowfield Sprint.
