Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted March 22 Journalists Share Posted March 22 Cilacap ridden by Jordan Childs wins the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes at Moonee Valley Racecourse. (Photo by George Sal/Racing Photos) Jordan Childs delivered a perfect ride aboard Cilacap ($8.00) to capture the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday, giving the Written Tycoon filly her second black type success in impressive style. Trainer Grahame Begg has had a remarkable autumn with his team, and Cilacap added another highlight to the stable’s season with her powerful performance. After drawing barrier two, Childs was able to find a soft spot on the fence behind a genuine tempo, biding his time until the final 300m when a run presented. Too Darn Lizzie () and Phenom ($13.00), both trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, ensured a strong gallop throughout the race. The favourite had to work from a wide gate and appeared to have the measure of her rivals on the turn, only for Cilacap to surge through underneath and sprint clear late. Saturday’s win was a significant return to form and provided Begg with confirmation the filly is tracking perfectly towards the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on April 26. “She’s brought a bit of happiness to the family during a tough few weeks,” said Begg. “She really made a lie of her last run, and that was a terrific ride from Jordie today. The team at home have done a bloody good job with her.” Childs, who had previously partnered the filly in jump-outs and trackwork, was delighted to finally get the chance to steer her on race day. “I probably pestered Grahame a bit to get on her,” said Childs. “She gave me the feel of a very good horse and she showed that today. I was confident when the rain came — she loves the sting out — and the race opened up perfectly.” Cilacap is now a $10 chance with the top horse racing bookmakers for the Australian Oaks set to be run on April 12 at Randwick.
