Wathnan Racing's HIT SHOW (h, 5, Candy Ride {Arg}–Actress, by Tapit) weaved his way through the Meydan stretch and ran down very game front-runner in the form of Calumet Farm's Mixto (Good Magic) to top an American-bred and -based quinella in Saturday's G1 Dubai World Cup. Heavily favored Forever Young (Jpn) (Real Steel {Jpn}) failed to exhibit the same brilliance he did when taking out the G1 Saudi Cup a month and a half ago and lumbered home a non-threatening third. Florent Geroux, second aboard Gun Runner when he was vanquished by an all-world performance from Arrogate in the 2017 World Cup, allowed his mount to get back in the run as Walk of Stars (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) rolled to the front from the inside gate. Mixto tracked from second and Imperial Emperor (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) sat three-deep in the breeze, as Ryusei Sakai tried to find a comfortable spot for Forever Young. Walk of Stars and Mixto were still at each other into the final 600 meters, and Forever Young was being asked some questions while not making any impression on those up in front. Mixto surged to the front at the furlong grounds and looked home, but Hit Show was finding his best stride, closing relentlessly from third-last with 300 meters to go and was along in the dying strides to deny Mixto. Lifetime Record: 18-9-1-1. O-Wathnan Racing; B-Gary & Mary West (KY); T-Brad Cox.
