Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted Monday at 03:35 PM Journalists Posted Monday at 03:35 PM Marco Botti and Marco Ghiani enjoyed a glorious homecoming at Capannelle on Monday when teaming up to win the 142nd running of the G2 Derby Italiano with Molveno. Ghiani settled his mount towards the rear of the 18-strong field through the first part of the 2,200-metre contest, before starting to pick off a few beaten rivals early in the straight. Crazy Spirit (Phoenix Of Spain), trained by Botti's brother, Stefano, looked to have the race in safe keeping when moving into a clear lead entering the final furlong, but Ghiani was able to muster a irresistible late charge from Molveno to collar that rival in the final strides and ensure that the prize would be going back to Newmarket. It was a fourth career victory for the son of Almanzor, who was racing beyond a mile for the first time and headed to Rome following a runner-up finish in a Newmarket handicap early last month.
