Prendergast won eight Irish Classics and managed the careers of some significant horses like Nebbiolo, Pidget, Artique Royale, Northern Treasure and Oscar Schindler right up throught to Awtaad, who won the Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh in 2016. His sole English Classic success came when Nebbiolo won the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket in 1977. A son of “Darkie”, himself a legendary trainer in his own right, Prendergast was a leading amateur jockey before embarking on his training career in 1963. One of Irish racing's all-time greats, Prendergast sent out winners for seven different decades.
