With a strong turn of foot, Tom's Magic (Justify–Dixie Chicken, by Rahy) was tough down the lane to take the Tale of the Cat Stakes at Monmouth on Saturday.

Bet down below even-money, the 3-year-old was content to let longshots show the way out of the chute and through the first turn. Heading for home, Tom's Magic gunned his engine and got down to business. The colt seized the lead and the rest in the final furlong was history. Outrunner (American Pharoah) was the runner-up.

The final running time was 1:42.68.

An Ontario-bred, the colt has the potential to be a contender for the King's Plate at Woodbine this summer.

Lifetime Record: 5-3-1-0. Sales History: $200,000 '23 KEESEP.

O-CJ Thoroughbreds and Mo Speed Racing; B-Sean Fitzhenry & Dorothy Fitzhenry (ON); T-Michael Stidham.
