Thorpedo Anna Rebounds With Win In ‘WAYI’ Fleur De Lis

Erasing the La Troienne loss from everyone's minds, reigning Horse of the Year THORPEDO ANNA (f, 4, Fast Anna–Sataves, by Uncle Mo) got back in the winner's circle at Churchill Downs in Saturday's GII Fleur de Lis Stakes, a 'Win and You're In” for the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff where she will almost certainly look to defend her title from last year. Facing just four other horses, the 'TDN Rising Star' got off to a clean beginning and sat a cozy second just off Royal Spa (Violence) who handled the tempo through moderate fractions of :23.43 and :47.07. That pair opened up a gap back to the rest of the field with Thorpedo Anna always keeping the pressure on the leader, cruising up alongside midway around the far turn. Royal Spa couldn't go with her and settled for second as the 'Grizzly' came home under wraps, leading in a strung-out group with only Taxed (Collected) making up ground from out the rest of the pack late.
