Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted 4 hours ago Journalists Posted 4 hours ago Unraced since winning the GII Castle & Key Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland last October, MINARET STATION (c, 3, Instilled Regard–Beau Recall {Ire}, by Sir Prancealot {Ire}) showed no rust off the layoff, firing midstretch to win the American Derby. Now a winner of his last three, the 5-2 second choice split runners in pursuit of loose pacesetter Freedom's Not Free (Omaha Beach) who took the field into the final furlong before a host of challengers drove him down late. Minaret Station, caught in a four-wide surge inside the sixteenth pole, had plenty of response for Cristian Torres to win ahead of Native Runner (Laobon) while Freedom's Not Free lasted for third.
