His late-sectional profile over 2000m screams he’ll relish the rise in trip, and a Soft 5 is no bother given his Irish background. With proven stamina and a turn of foot rarely seen at this grade, he should be powering over the top of some dour rivals inside the last 150m. Next Best Race 6 – #10 Shrewsbury Road (9) 5yo Gelding | T: Simon Zahra | J: Jye McNeil (57kg) Best Value at Sandown: Tournelle Tournelle has been knocking on the door all campaign and finally finds the right mares’ BM64 to convert. The Anthony & Sam Freedman import has chased home progressive types in consecutive runs, posting race-best closing splits each time, and now drops 1kg while drawing a cushy gate (barrier 7) for Thomas Stockdale. With Moonlight Circus and Nursery Chime likely to ensure a genuine tempo, Tournelle can slot midfield one-off, blend into the three-wide line before the corner, and let her sustained 400m sprint do the damage. A Soft 5 is ideal for her action, and ratings say she’s ready to win.
